The sixth and final season of the historical drama television series Vikings premiered on December 4, 2019, on History in Canada.[1] The series broadly follows the exploits of the legendary Viking chieftain Ragnar Lothbrok and his crew, and later those of his sons.
The sixth season consists of a double-season order of twenty episodes, split into two parts of ten episodes; the second half was released in its entirety on December 30, 2020 on Amazon Prime Video in Ireland, the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, and Austria,[2] ahead of its broadcast on History in Canada from January 1[3] to March 3, 2021. The season focuses on King Bjorn's reign over Kattegat, Ivar's adventures in Rus' and Wessex, and Ubbe's expeditions to Iceland and North America (Greenland and Mi'kma'ki/Canada).
An Irish-Canadian co-production presented by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, the sixth and final season of Vikings was developed and produced by TM Productions and Take 5 Productions. Morgan O'Sullivan, Sheila Hockin, Sherry Marsh, Alan Gasmer, James Flynn, John Weber, and Michael Hirst are credited as executive producers. This season was produced by Keith Thompson for the first eleven episodes, and Liz Gill for the remaining nine episodes. Bill Goddard and Séamus McInerney are co-producers.[5]
The musical score for the sixth and final season was composed by Trevor Morris. Einar Selvik did not return to collaborate with Morris on new original music for the final season. The opening sequence is again accompanied by the song "If I Had a Heart" by Fever Ray, with the final ten episodes featuring a remix of the song by Tim Hecker in place of the original.
In some sense, "The Last Act" is a schizophrenic episode. It principally follows two groups led by Ragnar's (Travis Fimmel) surviving sons as they march toward diametrically opposed, but equally inevitable conclusions. Ubbe's crew, who spent much of the half-season floating on the vast and uncharted Atlantic Ocean with neither food nor water, is now settled in the Golden Land (clearly North America), where they've discovered both a helpful Native American tribe and an old friend, Floki the boatbuilder. After much suffering at sea, it appears that Ubbe and his crew might finally get the chance to live as farmers in a bountiful land with new neighbors who know nothing of the Viking way, but when Naad (Ian Lloyd Alexander) murders We-jitu (Phillip Lewitski) after breaking into his teepee in search of gold, the fragile peace between the two peoples is threatened.
Vikings season six, part two, is arriving on Amazon Prime Video on December 30 and the trailer has already confirmed Katia (played by Alicia Agneson) will return in Kiev. Katia was the new wife of Prince Oleg (Danila Kozlovsky), but Ivar the Boneless (Alex Høgh Andersen) was convinced she was actually his ex-wife Freydis (also Agneson). Fans have been wondering whether Katia and Freydis are the same person, and the show's creator Michael Hirst revealed the answer to Express.co.uk.
Hirst said fans will find out a lot more about Katia and Freydis in the final 10 episodes. There is a moment in the first half of season six when Hvitserk [Marco Ilsø] rejoined Ivar and was taken to the court.
Vikings season six is the final instalment in the epic historical-drama series from The Tudors creator Michael Hirst. Vikings tells the story of Viking legend Ragnar Lothbrok (played by Travis Fimmel) and later his four sons. In the final 10 episodes, Ubbe (Jordan Patrick Smith) sets off on a journey to the 'Goldenland' which today is part of North America. Did Ubbe really discover North America? Express.co.uk has everything you need to know.
Vikings: season 6 and how we got here The epic voyage from Ragnar to Bjorn and now beyond, as one of the most beloved dramas on SBS returns for its final season. How 'Vikings' created Ivar the Boneless, a legendary leader with a disability The show's creator and the actor who plays Ivar talk about what inspired the character's portrayal. Plus, what do people with Ivar's condition think of the depiction? How much of 'Vikings' is true? It's complicated.
The remaining 10 episodes of season six will be debuting on Amazon Prime Video before they are aired on the History Channel, meaning avid viewers will be able to binge their way through the final chapter - but be warned: when it's gone, it's gone!

The second part of season six picks up where part one left off: the Rus have invaded Norway and Bjorn Ironside (Alexander Ludwig) has been stabbed by his brother, Ivar the Boneless (Alex Høgh Andersen). The Vikings must face a dire situation as they have to find a way to repel the Rus. As well as the lingering plotline from Part 1, Part 2 also focuses on political intrigue in Kattegat and Kyiv, the Vikings preparing for another invasion of Wessex, and exploration to the West.
The final three episodes had the opposite problem because it looked like the show was rushing to a conclusion. Harald Finehair (Peter Franzén) seemed like he came up with plans to invade Wessex on a whim. His reasoning was the Vikings dominate most of England they may as well conquer the rest of it. There was no build-up or reasoning for the invasion. This section of Part 2 went over the same material as the first season of The Last Kingdom but the Netflix show did it a lot better. The Last Kingdom had a lot more time to look at this conflict. The most interesting storyline in Season 6, Part 2 involved Ubbe (Jordan Patrick Smith) and a small group of the Norsemen goes West to find new land. Their journey takes them to North America where they arrive in a bountiful forest, but they also encounter the native tribe living there. The Norsemen and Native Americans had to figure out how to communicate with each other. They do it by offering gifts and using basic words and body language. I would have wanted to see more of this because the Vinland colony famously failed, and the show could have shown this.
